When you're listening to music, you're in a whole different world. It's understandable, I get it. You maybe don't want to face the world, and for the people who put in headphones at school, you don't want to face school for the time being.
Again, understandable.
However, when you're talking to someone or someone is talking to you, or if a teacher is doing their job and teaching you, you better be taking out those headphones. To do anything else is simply rude.
But you would be surprised--or maybe you wouldn't, I don't know your life--to know that most people don't take their headphones out when people are talking to them. It's bad enough when they leave one headphone in and only half listen to you, but some don't even take one out and and claim they can still hear you.
Listen, there better be angels singing into your ears for you to be leaving both your headphones in when we're talking. I'm not saying I'm so important that you need to drop everything and talk to me, but take your headphones out and show some respect.
I'm sorry that your music is so important that others are just unimportant background noises, but naw, homie, take your headphones out.*
I understand the irritation when someone randomly starts talking to you when you've got headphones in, but don't be rude; take out the headphones briefly and answer them, if that's what's necessary.
Common courtesy dictates that you look at a person when they're talking to you with both eyes and that you listen to someone when they're talking to you with both ears, so remove those headphones.
I guarantee that it's the best choice to make.
